Be the hope for our next leaders.

Mentorship is a great way to guide YDC youth to become the advanced STEAM industry professionals we know they can be. As a mentor, you can provide the support and inspiration our youth needs to take the next step to their future. We offer various ways a college student or a professional can be involved in our participants a success.

Responsibilities.

  • Meet with Mentee at least once a month, through physical or virtual one-on-one meet up’s

  • Have a strong understanding of Mentee’s goals and support them through that

  • Encourage Mentee to think outside of themselves and use their gifts to engage in issues in their communities

  • Communicate with YDC staff, including completing surveys, evaluations, and bi-monthly check in’s

  • Commit to at least 1 year of mentoring

Qualifications.

 

College Mentor.

 
  • Age 18+

  • CAP/YDC Programs Alumni 

  • Currently enrolled in college studying/majoring in degree in STEAM field 

  • Willingness to commit to the responsibilities of a mentor (communication with mentee and YDC staff, etc.)  

  • Resourceful, inspiring, and willing to learn new things

  • Attends school near Brooklyn or visits Brooklyn frequently

 

career Mentor.

 
  • Age 21+

  • Familiar with the mission and purpose of YDC

  • Works in the STEAM field; varying from entry-level to senior-level

  • Willingness to commit to the responsibilities of a mentor (communication with mentee and YDC staff, etc.)  

  • Resourceful, inspiring, and willing to learn new things 

  • Works in New York City greater area

Application Process.

Application Process

  • Complete online application

  • Complete pre-screening interview with staff

  • Complete mentorship training

  • Complete background check  

  • Attend matching meeting with Mentee and program staff
